A KIT LAUNCH SPECIAL OF SORTS

Ok, special is maybe a bit of an exaggeration but kit launches feature more than anything in this newsletter. It has been a bumper summer for them.

There is also a bit more Olympics because I have not come to terms yet that the Olympics finished nearly two weeks ago. Although we do have the Paralympics to look forward to.

Kit launches have come a long way. Production values have increased massively and this season we saw some exceptional launch videos that had the aim to increase sales and help build with brand identity.

For brands looking to enter the Twitterverse, it was always a game of risk vs reward.

Get it right and you are at the epicentre of social discourse.

Get it wrong and you go viral for all the wrong reasons.

But now does the risk outweigh the reward for value-conscious brands?

From athletes raising their own profile through TikTok to celebrities being paid to be in Paris, 2024 was an Olympics where they fully embraced the influencer era.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment of this article and it gives some valid reasons for why Snoop Dogg was a good asset for NBC.

However, I would argue that time zones had a lot to do with the increase in TV viewing figures referenced in the article as opposed to purely Snoop Dogg.

Referenced in the article at the very top of the newsletter, it was one that sucked you in and tied in nicely with the adidas and Man United storytelling.
